Overview
The N. Sivalingam Award for Tamil Studies is intended to encourage and promote research with a substantive focus on Tamil language, history, culture, society, or the Tamil diaspora, but comparative research is also eligible. The award will provide financial support to full-time graduate students at York University who have demonstrated the need to conduct fieldwork, research, or Tamil language training to complete a thesis or dissertation on such a topic. The award is open to domestic and international students enrolled in graduate studies at York University who have a grade point average of at least B+.
The N. Sivalingam Award for Tamil Studies was created in memory of the late Nagaratnam Sivalingam. Mr. Sivalingam was a pioneer and leader of the Tamil community in Canada, who dedicated his life to promoting both Tamil culture and issues of concern to the community.
