Celebrating 60 years of FGS with new series launch!

Scholarly Skills

Giving your first conference presentation? Commenting on someone else’s work? Maybe you’re converting your academic CV into a professional resumé, doing a radio or podcast interview, starting an internship, or going on the academic job market. Wherever you are in your grad or postdoctoral research career, it’s always good to brush up on those scholarly skills – effective and engaging communication, professional presentation, and even academic insider etiquette.

Join us once a month for a casual Dean’s brown bag lunch in which we will workshop these crucial skills and capacities. Whatever your stage or discipline, everyone can benefit from the chance to talk through the nuts and bolts of some aspect of academic praxis – going to conferences, publishing your work, networking with others, starting a major research project, or seeking employment inside or outside the academy.

Hosted by the Dean and Associate Deans of the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS), and open to all grad students and postdocs at York University; this series is a warm and welcoming place to hone your scholarly skills!
