Katherine Laxer
Katherine (Kate) Laxer has been teaching as contract faculty in the Department of Social Science since 2016. Beyond teaching, Kate is currently serving as an expert consultant with the Association of Ontario Midwives (AOM) for a pivotal pay equity case. She has taught at Brock University and McMaster University, contributing to undergraduate and graduate labour studies programs.
Kate’s teaching and research areas are centred on gender, care work, health and well-being, pay equity, labour relations, and research methodologies. She has collaborated on research projects focused on healthcare workers, women, and racialized groups, and she has contributed to the development of databases on gender, work, and precarious employment, facilitating cross-national and interdisciplinary analysis.
Kate’s teaching and research are informed by feminist political economy and intersectional analysis. She is currently a volunteer facilitator with the Sashbear Foundation, an organization dedicated to mental health and suicide prevention.
