Bethune College Peer Tutoring FAQs
Peer Tutors are trained, volunteer, upper year York students who are familiar with the course content. There are multiple tutors for each course and you may see a different person at each session.
There are two ways to meet a Peer Tutor:
- In-Person: These sessions are drop-in, no booking is required! Find your desired course code on the peer tutoring schedule and go to Life Sciences Building 104F at the scheduled time to meet a Peer Tutor!
- Virtual: These sessions need to be booked in advance. find your desired course code (subject to availability) on the virtual session booking page and book a session! you can meet a tutor via a MS Teams meeting!
Peer Tutoring drop-in hours are hosted in Life Sciences Building 104F. Please check the schedule here for subject availability.
Peer Tutoring virtual hours need to be booked, and are held on Microsoft Teams video calls. Book a session now and meet a Tutor later.
- Identify a single concept or question to focus on to make best use of the time you have with the tutor.
- Bring study materials with you that are relevant to your selected concept/question (e.g. study notes, textbook, etc.)
- Come ready to participate - the Peer Tutors will work with you collaboratively.
Yes! Peer Tutoring is completely free of charge.
Peer Tutors can NOT help you with assignments/homework that you will be graded on.
Peer Tutors CAN help explain concepts related to the topic, but will not provide you with direct answers.
Visiting a Peer Tutor can help you to better grasp course material by strengthening fundamental subject-concepts, provide you with feedback, and/or help you to look at a problem in a new way.
