You have a Peer Mentor!
All first-year students in the Faculty of Science are part of a peer mentoring group led by an upper-year Bethune College student!
Your Peer Mentor is here to support you throughout your first year by answering general questions, connecting you with helpful resources, sharing their experiences, and helping you navigate university life.
You'll also be part of a group of fellow first-year students, giving you opportunities to meet new people, share experiences, and feel more connected to the York community.
Throughout the year, you'll stay connected with your mentor and group through Microsoft Teams and monthly meetups.
Peer Mentors are upper-year students who understand what it's like to navigate university life. They can help you:
- Navigate campus and university life
- Find helpful York resources and services
- Answer general questions about the first-year experience
- Learn from the experiences of an upper-year student
- Meet and connect with other first-year students
- Feel more comfortable and connected within the York community
💻 Microsoft Teams
Your mentoring group has a dedicated space on Microsoft Teams, the official communication platform for Bethune Peer Mentoring.
Use your group to ask questions, connect with your Peer Mentor and fellow mentees, and stay updated on helpful information, resources, and opportunities.

👥 Monthly Meetups
Your Peer Mentor will host group meetups throughout the year, both virtually and in person.
Meetups are an opportunity to get to know your mentor, meet other students in your group, ask questions, and build connections within the community.
Students in the Lassonde School of Engineering also have access to peer mentoring, but through a different model.
Lassonde uses a course-embedded peer mentoring system, which means you will have dedicated opportunities to connect with your Peer Mentor through one of your first-year courses.
