Bethune Peer Mentoring

Are you a new student? You have a Peer Mentor!

All first-year students in the Faculty of Science belong to a mentoring group led by an upper-year student who will be your Peer Mentor throughout your first year.

Throughout the year, your mentoring group will stay connected through:

  • Online Community: Dedicated space for your mentoring group to ask questions, connect with your mentor and fellow mentees, and stay up to date with important announcements and resources. Please make sure that you've signed up for your Peer Mentoring Teams Channel!
  • Meet-Ups: Your mentor will host virtual and in-person group meetups throughout the year where you can get to know your mentor and the rest of your group!

Please contact bcmentor@yorku.ca with any questions or concerns regarding the Bethune Mentoring Program for Science Students.

If you are a Lassonde School of Engineering student, please be aware that you still do have a Peer Mentor! The Lassonde mentoring model is a course-embedded system. This means that you will have space and time to meet with your mentor during one of your First-Year Courses. Please contact ask@lassondeschool.com with any questions that you may have.

Who are Bethune Peer Mentors?

Bethune Peer Mentors are upper year students from the Faculty of Science or Lassonde School of Engineering. Peer Mentors volunteer their time to help incoming students navigate their first year at York and receive training from the Bethune College Head Office.

Peer Mentors offer:

  • Guidance based on their own experiences as York students to enable other students build confidence
    to navigate their university journey.
  • Support and connection—someone to talk to who understands what you’re going through.
  • Referrals to helpful York services when you need additional support.
