Michelle Mohabeer

Dr. Michelle Mohabeer is a multi-award-winning filmmaker/media artist, media and culture scholar. Her body of films and digital videos have exhibited at over 300 local and global film festivals, conferences, and galleries, written about in numerous scholarly journals, cited in books, and purchased by over 60 prominent university libraries across North America. Her recent article, “Diasporic Media and Self Reflexive Caribbean-Canadian film” is forthcoming in the June 2023 issue of the peer reviewed, Journal of Indentureship and its Legacies. Dr Mohabeer is in progress with a critical book collection about diasporic and queer racialized Independent Women Filmmakers in Canada, for which she is the contributing editor, she received a CUPE research grant for her chapter contribution in this collection. Her recent essay documentary, Queer Coolie-tudes has won three awards and exhibited across Europe, North and South America at festivals, galleries and academic conferences, including at Congress 2023 with a roundtable discussion of the film.
