Position Title: Communications Intern
Working Site’s Location: Toronto, On

Job Description:

The placement student will support the communication strategy of the Centre for Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion. Projects will include review of website contenta nd design, development of podcast episodes, social media post strategizing and development, copy editing of internal and external documents, development of promotional materials including flyers, press releases, posters and campaigns and other duties as requested.

Qualifications:

This placement will support students in the development of skills, however, previous experience in the following is an asset:

  • Podcast creation.
  • Website design.
  • Social media campaigns.
  • Promotional material design.

Most of the work at CHREI is project work, and students will be expected to work independently as well as part of a team. Feedback and supervision will be offered regularly and the student will be expected to work as part of an interdisciplinary team. An interest in and commitment to social justice, decolonization, equity and inclusion will set this student up for success.

Additional Assets:

Students will be welcome to bring their own ideas to the team, but an ability to implement their ideas will be most beneficial. CHREI does a lot of different kinds of work that often needs to be completed on short timelines - students who are able to produce work under tight deadlines will be successful here. Further, students who appreciate a variety of work, and not just a singular project over the course of the placement will also find working here fulfilling. DEDI work is challenging, and critical self-reflective skills are encouraged. This placement is not only about technical skill development, but also about engaging honestly with the content of what it means to decolonize and to actualize equity and inclusion at York University.
