Prepare to Become a Future Educator
York University's Bachelor of Education (BEd) program prepares future teachers to support diverse learners and create inclusive, engaging learning environments through a combination of academic study, hands-on classroom experience, and mentorship from experienced educators. Students can choose between the Concurrent BEd, which combines teacher education with undergraduate studies, or the Consecutive BEd, designed for those who have completed or are completing an undergraduate degree. Both pathways lead to Ontario teacher certification and provide the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed for a rewarding career in education.

Certification Pathways
York's BEd program prepares you for certification in one of three teaching divisions:
Primary-Junior (JK to Grade 6) for those interested in teaching young learners.
Junior-Intermediate (Grade 4 to Grade 10) for those pursuing subject-focused teaching opportunities
Intermediate-Senior (Grade 7 to Grade 12) for those planning to teach at the secondary school level

Choose the Pathway That's Right for You
Concurrent BEd
Perfect for students beginning their university journey. You'll work toward your undergraduate degree while following a pathway into teacher education, allowing you to start preparing for a teaching career from your first year at York.
Consecutive BEd
Ideal for students who have completed, or are near completing, an undergraduate degree and are ready to focus on professional teacher education. The full-time program is completed over three semesters (one-year) and combines coursework with practical classroom experience.
School Practicum
Teaching is a hands-on profession, and experiential learning is at the heart of the BEd program. As part of the regular BEd and the BEd in Technological Education degree programs, all students are required to complete school-based practicums in accordance with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) accreditation standards. Through in-chool placements, you'll connect theory with practice, work directly with students, and build the confidence needed to enter the profession.
Important Program Commitment
The Bachelor of Education is a full-time, professional degree program. Students participate in courses and school placements throughout the week and should expect to dedicate additional time to planning, assignments, assessment, and preparation.
