Company Bio:

The Ralph Thornton Community Centre (RTCC) provides a range of services and supports to the South Riverdale community from a repurposed historic building, in collaboration with our building partners Toronto Public Library, South Riverdale Child-Parent Centre, Don Valley Community Legal Services and over 100 other community organizations that regularly use our space.

Job Description:

Provide support for RTCC's digital media, print, and other outreach, including assisting with posting, newsletter and poster production, and special event publicity. Additionally, help with RTCC's new digital communications strategy via research, reports, and analytics.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in Centre committees (ex. Fundraising, Marketing, Membership, and/or Outreach) and collaborate with administrative and program staff. This position can be framed to reflect the particular skills and interests of the successful candidates - there is a great deal of flexibility and opportunity for independent work.

Qualifications:

While our office environment is casual and collaborative, we expect candidates to bring strong basic job skills (punctuality, attendance, respect for colleagues, service users, and volunteers), and to be able to work with individuals from a diverse range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

  • Experience with social media.
  • Strong research, analytics, and writing skills.
  • An interest in community service is an important strength for these positions.
  • Able to work in a collaborative environment, with minimal direct supervision.
  • Open and communicative about their abilities and limitations.
  • Proactive and take the initiative.

Additional Assets:

  • Familiarity or knowledge of Chinese language and community (a major portion of the community we serve is Chinese-speaking).
  • Experience with social media account management.
  • Experience with video production and editing.
  • Experience with Mailchimp and Microsoft Office Suite (ex. Excel).
  • Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Photoshop (or equivalent programs).
  • Familiarity with a social media toolkit program (ex. Buffer, Hootsuite).
