Sociology of the Middle East and North African Societies

This course examines major sociological issues in the Middle East and North Africa.  It privileges comparative analysis framework to allow students to develop an informed and multilayered knowledge of the region.  It discusses these issues by adopting a three-pronged approach-a study of its historical, sociological and cultural aspects - while emphasizing the way by which they produce their "alternative modernity".
