Check Out these Writing Resources during Reading Week!

It’s that time of the term we’ve all been waiting for! Reading Week is here, and we would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that the Writing Centre will be closed for this period! However just because we’re closed doesn’t mean all our resources are unavailable. The Writing Centre has many online assets you can utilize during our period of closure!

On our website, on our Resources page we have two links we recommend you check out!

  • On our Videos & Transcripts page, we have playlists on topics like citations, thesis statements and many more!

If you’re looking for more interactive practice you can check out our External Writing Links page!

  • You can access Writing Labs from Purdue University, Excelsior College and Harvard College! Perfect for practice in essay writing, plagiarism review, and even other resources you can access through their own system!
  • You can also review APA and MLA Style guides and handouts! Also included are research guides, writing mechanics and even citation checklists!
  • On the page is also a quick link to York University’s SPARK Module! A guide to successful academic papers, with examples, templates and videos on research and writing!

If you want to become a better writer, one helpful technique is to write every day,” said Professor Jon Sufrin, York’s Writing Centre Director. “Reading Week is a good time to start a good habit—use our website resources to get started on Winter term assignments, or just to write for pleasure.”

Take it from one of the most experienced Writing Instructors, it’s important to keep practicing to further elevate your skills! Time is a precious commodity, and a week without classes may be the perfect opportunity for writing practice!

Lastly, don’t forget to book your One-to-One Appointments for after Reading Week so you can dive right back into it! We hope to see everyone once we reopen on February 26! Until then, whether you relax, be productive, or do both, we hope you have an enjoyable Reading Week!
