Science Rendezvous

Science Rendezvous is an annual family festival that takes science out of the lab and onto the streets across Canada, all on the same day, from coast to coast, with events hosted by universities and research institutions. 

York University’s Markham Campus is teaming up with the City of Markham and Markham Village BIA to host this event at Main Street Markham.

Celebrate the opening weekend of the Markham Farmers’ Market with this FREE drop‑in event for kids and families to explore fun STEAM activities — build, test, and discover.

  • Let’s extract DNA from strawberries!
  • Join us for the Satellite Scavenger Hunt!
  • Look up to the Observatory Team as they bring their solar telescopes

  • Watch the Markham Firebirds as they demonstrate their newest competition robot

Event Highlights from Previous Years

Our 2023 Science Rendezvous was a resounding success with almost 2,000 participants enjoying a number of activities, including:

  • A giant human bubble experiment got everyone moving
  • The Observatory team shared views of the sun through solar telescopes
  • The microscopic world of ticks and mosquitoes was on display through interactive lab exhibits
  • A life-sized kaleidoscope invited visitors to explore fascinating fractals
  • Circuits came to life through hands-on activities from the k2i Academy
  • The Song Engineers comedy show brought music and laughs
  • The Markham Firebirds demonstrated their latest competition robot
  • STEM Kids Rock featured Ontario’s largest privately owned “you can touch” collection of prehistoric fossils, exotic insects, rocks and minerals
