Communication, Social Media & Public Relations (BA)

Communication, Social Media & Public Relations is a new stream in the existing Communication & Media Studies (BA) program.

Offered exclusively at the new Markham Campus, this program will help you develop a solid foundation in communication and media studies while pursuing an intensive focus on the study of social media and public relations. Acquire research experience, analytical skills and expertise in communicating across multimedia formats with an emphasis on ethics and a commitment to social justice and transformation. The program also includes experiential education and placement opportunities, to support you in navigating future career or academic pursuits.

Computer Science for Software Development (BASc)

Choose from exciting options in emerging areas such as cloud computing, cyber security and data science in this program, which puts innovative ideas at the heart of program design.

In your courses, you will have the opportunity to work on real-world community and industry-inspired projects, covering both theory and practice. Moreover, through experiential learning, you’ll play an active role in the learning process, whether that’s during extensive labs, project-based assessments, simulated workplace assignments and/or work terms in Markham-based industrial or non-profit organizations. Creative Technologies (BFA)

School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design

Apply creativity, collaboration and entrepreneurship to address real-world problems in fast-changing industries, such as the ethics of disruptive technologies, web3, the development and application of artificial intelligence, and more.

The Creative Technologies (BFA) program empowers students to develop multidisciplinary creative skills and technological expertise through hands-on learning with an emphasis on social applications and contexts.

As a student in this program, you will engage in collaborative research and digital projects that address real-world problems and contribute to emerging industries. Through innovative skills-based courses, you will gain practical experience such as technology for fabrication, media processes, digital content creation, virtual environments and more. Grounded in critical entrepreneurship, the curriculum focuses on collaboration, sustainability and social change.

Digital Technologies (BASc)

Imagine earning a full-time salary at a company, while dedicating 20 per cent of your time to study.

Earn a full-time salary from day one while completing your degree. This first-of-its-kind program in Canada blends academic learning with hands-on, paid work experience—so you graduate with a degree, a portfolio, and real-world skills. Over four years, you’ll specialize in Cybersecurity, Software Development, or Data Science, while working continuously with one or more organizations and receiving long-term mentorship. Developed in collaboration with leading national employers, this program is designed to help you build in-demand technical skills, reduce financial strain, and graduate career-ready.

Entrepreneurship & Innovation (BCom)

A new Markham Campus stream in York University’s established Commerce program, this option lets you combine core commerce courses with courses focused on developing an action-oriented, entrepreneurial mindset for overcoming organizational and societal challenges in an ever-changing world.

Draw from business and social perspectives to understand how value is created in both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. You will benefit from hands-on, practical education in entrepreneurship and innovation built on a strong foundation of theoretical knowledge. Program-specific courses will include Entrepreneurial Strategy, Creating & Launching New Products, Hackathon I & II and Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Financial Technologies (BSc)

Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies

This program prepares you for a technology-related career in the financial sector.

Combine computing and information technology training with economics and finance education. A specially designed combination of courses will explore diverse aspects of the financial technologies industry, from AI and machine learning, financial systems design and financial cryptography, to mathematical finance, banking and payment systems, e-trading, and portfolio management. Graduate with a strong understanding of finance, information and computational technologies and the connections between the two.

First Year Engineering Core Program

Students in Engineering begin their studies with a foundational common first year. The first year courses in applied mathematics, physical sciences, programming, and engineering (design, ethics, and communication) provide a strong base for branching out into the engineering majors.

The first year program allows you to explore various engineering majors before committing for the second year. At Lassonde, we believe this approach helps you discover your passions and find your fit.


First Year Science Program

A distinctive way to begin your York Science degree

Start your science degree at York’s Markham Campus, a student-centred first-year experience designed to kickstart your future in science with confidence from day one.

Begin your journey in Life Sciences (Biology, Biomedical Science, Biotechnology), Chemical Sciences (Biochemistry, Chemistry), or as an undecided science major, grounded in core scientific principles and analytical skills central to advanced study. You’ll learn through hands-on inquiry in modern spaces and smaller classes designed to deepen your learning, ask questions, collaborate, and stay engaged. Whether you’re set on a specific path or still exploring your options, Markham gives you room to discover what fits.

After first year, you’ll continue with the rest of your degree requirements at the Keele Campus to complete your chosen York Science degree through a planned, supported pathway-including peer mentorship - that keeps you moving forward into more advanced areas of study.


Sport Management (BSM)

Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies

This business-oriented program focuses on the managerial and organizational aspects of sport.

Learn about sport innovation and entrepreneurship alongside studies in sport leadership, sport communications and community relations, sport analytics and e-sport. The experiential education component includes strategic management, marketing or finance and accounting projects. It also includes two employer and community-focused, hands-on learning opportunities. You will be introduced to creativity and innovation in the world of recreational, amateur and professional sport, and develop skills and knowledge relevant to evolving sport management practices.
