Models of Second Language Acquisition: the case of French

This course examines models of second language acquisition, as well as their theoretical foundations in linguistics, psychology and cognitive science.  Students examine how these models have been applied to the teaching and learning of French in Canada, France and the rest of the francophone world.

As this course is integrated to the M.A. Program in French Studies, some analytical tools will be presented to the students to measure the role of national and international linguistic and educational policies on language teaching and learning. Research theories and methods are proposed at two levels; one for undergraduate students and one for graduate students. For this reason, the gathering, analysis of data and the research reports will be evaluated with two different schemes of evaluation.

Prerequisites: AP/FR 2100 6.00 with a minimum grade of C.

Course credit exclusions: GL/FRAN 3556 3.00
