Tinu Koithara Mathew

Tinu Koithara Mathew is a PhD candidate at the School of Human Resources Management, York University, with over 15 years of experience in Human Resource Management (HRM) and Industrial Relations. His professional background spans multinational corporations, non-governmental organizations, international institutions like the ILO, and academic settings, allowing him to bridge theory and practice in his teaching and research. 

His research, focusing on the effectiveness of training programs for behaviour change in global supply chains, explores how innovative methods such as virtual reality can be used to address workplace challenges. As a consultant with the International Labour Organization’s Better Work program, he conducted research on the effectiveness of ILO-Better Work sexual harassment prevention training programs in Indonesia, Vietnam, Jordan, and Nicaragua, which provided him with unique insights into human resources and industrial relations challenges in international and cross-cultural contexts. 

Tinu holds a graduate degree in Labour Studies from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, India, where he was awarded the Institute Gold Medal for best research project and was a DAAD Scholar at the University of Kassel, Germany. He has an undergraduate degree in Electronics Engineering from Anna University, India. He currently teaches undergraduate HRM courses at York University and is an active member of the Global Labour Research Centre, Canadian Industrial Relations Association (CIRA) and Labour and Employment Relations Association (LERA).
