Yashwini Lepagaran
3rd year Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA)
My name is Yashwini Lepagaran, and I am entering my third year of the Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA) program, specializing in Management. What I appreciate most about the BPA program is its hands-on and career-focused approach. It has given me opportunities to develop practical skills while preparing me for the professional world, all within a welcoming and close-knit community.
I still remember my first day of university and feeling overwhelmed by everything being so new. The support I received from the BPA community made that transition much easier. During orientation, I was introduced to the Public Policy and Administration Student Association (PPASA) and immediately knew I wanted to get involved. I joined as a Junior Ambassador in my first year, became Director of Social Media and Marketing in my second year, and am now excited to serve as Vice President. PPASA has been one of the most meaningful parts of my university experience, allowing me to build friendships, connect with professors, and develop my leadership and professional skills.
The program has also helped me become more confident in preparing for my future career. Courses such as AP/PPAS 2195 3.0 Professional Skills and Communication, have given me practical skills in resume writing, interview preparation, and briefing notes, while PPASA workshops and events have provided additional opportunities to strengthen these skills. Furthermore, through the practicum course AP/PPAS 4995 6.0, I will also have the opportunity to gain firsthand experience in the public sector through my placement with the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. I am excited to apply what I have learned in the classroom, learn from professionals, and gain a better understanding of working in a real-world public service environment.
Overall, my experience in the BPA program has been about more than academics. It has given me a strong sense of community, meaningful leadership opportunities, and practical experiences that have helped shape my personal and professional growth. I am excited to continue learning and make the most of the opportunities ahead as I enter my third year.
