Amanda Doobay
Director, Safety Program Development Branch in the Transportation Safety Division, Ministry of Transportation (MTO)
Amanda Doobay is currently with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) as Director, Safety Program Development Branch in the Transportation Safety Division where she had led province-wide transportation safety policy initiatives including the reduction or elimination of fees, charges and user tolls related to owning and operating a moto vehicle, cracking down on impaired driving by introducing legislation imposing stiffer penalties for those who drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, improving community safety and protecting people and families from road users who engage in dangerous and illegal activities such as impaired driving, legislation cracking down on auto theft creating new provincial offences for fraudulent vehicle registrations and the suspension of driver’s licences of those who are convicted of moto vehicle theft, including lifetime bans for repeat offenders. Most recently the development and implementation of a $210 M Road Safety Initiatives Fund (RSIF) to support increased road safety in school zones and community safety zones. The RSIF will provide financial support for road safety measures including traffic-calming infrastructure like speed bumps, raised crosswalks, and roundabouts as well as high visibility signage and increased police enforcement in school zones and community safety zones.
Amanda is a seasoned director with a 25-year career in the Ontario Public Service (OPS). Prior to her appointment to MTO she was the Director of Corrections Policy, Planning and Service Delivery Branch within Operational Support Division of the Ministry of the Solictor General where she played a crucial role in providing critical leadership, integrating specialized services and expertise in areas such as operational policy development, IT sustainment, service delivery operations, information management, and continuity of operations planning. She has been a driving force in successfully implementing key policies and business application enhancements supporting the correctional services roadmap, and her leadership has greatly impacted many achievements across Corrections. Amanda has been a valued leader and contributor at key governance tables within Corrections and is known for her highly collaborative and solutions-focused approach.
Amanda is an alumna of the 2015 Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference and is a GTA Regional Ontario Co-Chair for the conference, focusing on curating leadership development programming on diversity and inclusion. Amanda has a Master of Public Administration from Queen’s University and a Specialized Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Public Policy and Administration from York University. In recognition of Amanda’s exceptional support to the Practicum in Public Administration Course, a guest speaker for other courses and mentor to students, the School of Public Policy and Administration of York University, she is the 2025 recipient of the Alumni of the Year Award.
