Xiangjian Zeng

First-year Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA) major and minor in Healthcare Management.

Hello! My name is Xiangjian Zeng (Ricko), and I am a first-year Bachelor of Public Administration major and minor in Healthcare Management.

I grew up in China, the capital of the communist party nowadays; politics wasn’t something that Chinese people could talk or share freely. One of my thoughts as a kid I remember was to bring freedom of speech and liberalism to my home country. However, I moved to Canada right after my high school graduation. I have decided to continue my dream in this free land and be a responsible public servant to all Canadians in the future. That is why I chose Public Administration at York as my major; it wasn’t a difficult choice at all.

In my first year of study, I got in touch with some fantastic professors and TAs. I love most of the courses, and in particular AP/PPAS 1110.30 Introduction to Public Administration: Bureaucracy and Western Liberal Capitalist Democracy and AP/ECON 1000 Introduction to Microeconomics. In the PPAS course, I have learned that knowledge can directly imply our future government careers. In my economics class, I have learned how to calculate our opportunity cost before buying or doing something to make intelligent decisions.

Last but not least, I am also really grateful that I could be part of the Public Policy Administration Student Association (PPASA) to expand my network to all the other PPAS students and alumni in  the federal and provincial public service. One of the best parts of being a member of PPASA is the opportunity to attend the events they host and learn from other students and professors while you are here; it makes you feel like you are not alone in this. As for now, I am a Junior Ambassador for who is looking forward to working with our executive team members to build up a better PPASA community for all of us!
