Land Acknowledgment

First Nations peoples have lived on this part of Turtle Island for millennia, stewarding the land, the water and all that contributes to life in this region. Today, the culture and presence of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples enrich the lands and people of this territory where York University is located. Visit the official webpage to learn more about the cross campus Land Acknowledgment statements.

Indigenous Learning Circle

The Indigenous Learning Circle is a space for relationship‑building, ceremony, reflection, and learning rooted in respect, reciprocity, and relationality. Established in alignment with York University’s Indigenous Framework, this space honours Indigenous knowledge, community, and ways of knowing.

Bookings are made through the Temporary Use of University Space (TUSS) preferably two weeks in advance. Learn more about the booking process. Please email markham@yorku.ca if you require any support.

Multi-Faith and Reflection Room

The Multi-faith and Reflection room offers a space for all York University community members for quiet prayers and introspection. This space welcomes students, faculty and staff of any faith or religious background. Bookings are required for events, classes and planned ceremonies. Bookings are made by contacting markhamstudentlife@yorku.ca

Dates of Significance Calendar

York University maintains a few key calendars that support inclusive planning across the institution. Dates of Observance, curated by the Vice-President Equity, People and Culture, highlight commemorative and celebratory dates that reflect the University’s values. The Registrar’s Office maintains the Commonly Observed Dates of Religious Significance, used for scheduling and accommodation, as well as the Statutory Holidays calendar, which lists official University closure dates.

The Centre for Indigenous Student (CISS) Services strives to create a sense of belonging and to support the academic, spiritual, physical, and emotional well-being of a diverse Indigenous student population.

The Centre (The Centre for Sexual Violence Response, Support & Education)

The Centre for Sexual Violence Response, Support & Education provides support, resources, and guidance for individuals impacted by sexual or gender-based violence.

YFS Groups

The York Federation of Students (YFS) supports five Community Service Groups: Access Centre, ISAY, TBLGAY, USAY, and YUBSA, that advocate for equity and provide resources, events, and safe spaces for marginalized students, including those who are disabled, Indigenous, LGBTQ+, South Asian, or Black, fostering inclusion and community on campus.

YU Pride celebrates the 2SLGBTQIA+ community at York University by highlighting the contributions of the Queer community to our campus. It also provides resources to support the Queer community if they are looking for support and seeking community on-campus.
