Ancient World Studies Courses

Students enrolled in the Ancient World Studies stream may take courses that relate to the ancient world both from the Department of History and from other departments. All Ancient World Studies courses are identified by an ANCW subject code in addition to the subject code of the originating department. For example, an ancient history course may be identified as AP/HIST 2100 = AP/ANCW 2100.

A full list of Ancient World Studies courses may be found below.

*Note: not all courses are offered every year.

At the 1000 level, students are introduced to the study of the ancient world through courses that emphasize methodology, concentrating on fundamental reading, writing, research and analytical skills.

At the 2000 level, students are introduced to major chronological, geographical and thematic fields.

More specialized courses are offered at the 3000 level, while 4000-level courses enable small groups of Honours students to focus on specific topics.
