Dan Palermo
Deputy Provost, Markham Campus, York University
As Deputy Provost of York University’s Markham Campus, Dan Palermo provides academic and administrative leadership, guiding the campus’s continued growth as a centre for innovation, learning, and industry collaboration. He works closely with faculty, staff, employers, and community partners to strengthen an inclusive, future-focused environment that connects education with real-world impact—supporting student success, workforce development, and York Region’s growing innovation economy.
Before taking on this role, Dan served as Vice Dean at York’s Lassonde School of Engineering, where he led academic planning and faculty affairs. A professor of Structural Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering, he has also taught at the University of Ottawa and the University of Calgary.
With a strong focus on collaboration and applied learning, Dan is helping to establish York University’s Markham Campus as a go-to destination for talent development and industry engagement—building pathways for students to gain meaningful experience while supporting employers in solving real challenges and driving growth across the region.
