John Alderdice is the Manager of Business Retention and Expansion within the City of Toronto’s Economic Development & Culture Division. With over 25 years of municipal economic development experience, John leads a dedicated team focused on enhancing business growth and retention throughout Toronto. His team handles a wide range of responsibilities, including business outreach, partnership development, Gold Star expansion support, location assistance, policy advocacy, and employment lands preservation. His team also advises on incentive programs to foster economic growth and now tariff’s too!

In addition to local responsibilities, John oversees an international team supporting the City’s International Alliance Program, which strengthens Toronto’s global economic connections through partnerships and trade missions. John holds an Honours Bachelor of Science in Geography from Trent University and is passionate about being a hockey dad and spending time up north.
