York University’s Markham Campus receives $150,000 from WEINS Auto Group

February 14, 2023

WEINS Auto Group has made a generous donation of $150,000 towards the capital construction of York University’s Markham Campus. With 10 floors of teaching and learning spaces, the new campus will support research in three clusters and facilitate collaboration between students, industry partners, and the community.

In recognition of this contribution, York University is pleased to name the “WEINS Auto Group Student Lounge”. The lounge will be located on the second floor of the Markham Campus building and will feature comfortable seating and study areas for small groups.

“This gift from WEINS Auto Group represents a lasting investment in higher education for the Markham community,” said Gordon Binsted, deputy provost, Markham. "Support from businesses in Markham and throughout York Region allows us to continue building a flourishing learning environment for students, equipped with the resources they need to succeed in their studies.”

“As a long-time business operating in Markham and having deep roots in the community, we are excited to engage with institutions and organizations that contribute to the growth, culture and betterment of our city, especially where young people are involved,” said Anne Gilligan from WEINS Auto Group. ”As business leaders, employers, and members of the community we believe in investing in the future of our constituents. York University is no doubt going to be a big part of that growth going forward and we are proud to be part of the support for the Markham Campus.”

WEINS Auto Group is one of the largest automotive groups in Ontario with several dealerships across the province. The Japanese parent company, Yokohama Toyopet, entered the North American market in 1973 by opening a new dealership in Markham. WEINS continues to show their corporate citizenship by being involved in and supporting the Markham and Greater Toronto Area communities for years.

Opening in spring 2024, Markham Campus will offer work-integrated programs in entrepreneurship, innovation and technology.
