As one of the colleges affiliated with the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies (LA&PS), Founders College combines a strong emphasis on academic excellence with a commitment to the development of its members as well-rounded individuals.

The theme of the College is "Self, Culture & Society," which reflects the special interest of the College in its 23 program affiliations in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies and 1 program affiliation in the Faculty of Environmental Studies.


Founders also houses the Canadian Woman Studies Journal/les cahiers de la femme, the Mariano A. Elia Chair in Italian-Canadian Studies, the Nellie Langford Rowell Library, the School of Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies and the Speech & Psycholinguistics Lab.

These units, along with the Fellows, support staff and student organizations, contribute to the dynamic intellectual life of the College.

  Introducing The Wor(l)d Cultures Buddy Project


Supported by the LA&PS Dean's Internationalization Initiative Fund for Academic Units, and by the Office of the Master, Founders College, the Wor(l)d Cultures Buddy Project is a peer-to-peer program that pairs international students with students registered in programs housed at the Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics.

Selected by first language(s), visiting international students, whose life experiences and knowledge of their home culture and literature are such a rich offering to their peers at York University, are invited to pair up with a DLLL student who is interested in that area of the world.
