With several rooms available for drop-ins and/or reservations, we encourage you to take advantage.

Looking for the premier place to study at Founders? Then the Junior Common Room (JCR) is the place for you. Located on the College’s Courtyard Level, this large, quiet and casual space is filled with comfortable places to sit alone or in groups.

Location: Courtyard level

Bright! Attractive! Inspiring! All words to describe the Arthur Haberman Room, used by the College to plan and host poetry readings, music nights and art exhibitions. Open for students to study. See room schedule posted outside of the room.

Warm and inclusive, The Nellie encourages everyone to drop by, borrow books, study, read, relax, use the public computers, make copies (cash only), learn about student resources, or participate in our library events. Food and beverages are permitted.

Atkinson Lounge

Location: Courtyard level

Renovated in 2020, 002 Atkinson is New College’s newest study space on campus. Located in the basement of the Atkinson building with a beautiful large window view of the campus grounds, it's the perfect quiet space to study and do homework in between classes.

Vanier Junior Common Room

Welcome to the Hub! Stop by to study, work on a group project, hang out with friends, or just take a break on the couches. There is always something happening in the Vanier Junior Common Room, whether it be the LA&PS Community Hub or various student events.

McLaughlin Junior Common Room

Location: Courtyard level

Located at the courtyard level in McLaughlin College, the McLaughlin Junior Common Room is a large space with tables and chairs for studying. It also has cozy couches and chairs for relaxing. This is a great space to meet with friends and get some homework done.

McLaughlin Courtyard

McLaughlin College

A unique feature of McLaughlin College is its Courtyard, located in the very centre of the College itself. The Courtyard features a lovely garden of trees, scrubs, bushes, and flowers, along with benches and a walkway. This special open College space can be used by students, faculty, staff, alumni, and Fellows to enjoy a pleasant quiet setting at the very heart of the College.

Vanier Courtyard

Vanier College

The Vanier Courtyard is a fantastic outdoor space with grass, shrubs, trees, benches, and picnic tables. It is located outside of the Vanier Renaissance Room (VC 001), making it a convenient place to study outside in the fresh air. It has benches and picnic tables for having a snack, meeting friends, or just taking a break and enjoying the weather.


Founders Courtyard

Founders College

Located between Founders College and the Founders Residence, the Founders Courtyard is a peaceful spot to take a break in between classes. The tables and benches are great places to hang out with friends and enjoy the weather. Come by in the spring to see the blossoms, and in the fall to see the beautiful autumn colours.

New College Courtyard

New College

The New College Courtyard is located on the east side of the Atkinson building. It is a large open space with shady trees and picnic tables. It is a peaceful spot to eat lunch, meet with friends, or just spend time outside. It is also a great outdoor study spot for in the fall and spring seasons, allowing you to get some work done while enjoying the fresh air.

Fellows Garden

McLaughlin College

Our Fellows Garden is located outside the northwest end of the College grounds. It is a quiet space that is below the pathway next to Founders College that leads to the York University tennis courts and the front entrances to the College. A sheltered green space that is surrounded on one side by shrubs and flowers with picnic tables to allow an opportunity, the weather permitting, to enjoy your lunch, to read, to study outdoors, or simply to meet and chat with friends. This outdoor space can also be used for receptions, barbecues, and other social events and gatherings.
