Four graduating students receive 2022 Alumni Awards

The York University Alumni Board recognized four distinguished York students with 2022 Alumni Awards and Scholarships for their academic excellence and leadership.

York's 2022 Top 30 Alumni Under 30 list includes 3 Education grads

The 30 outstanding graduates, including humanitarian Farkhunda Muhtaj, are working to right the future in a variety of fields and highlight the many career and life paths made possible with a York degree.

Alumni Spotlight: Jonathan Clodman

Jonathan Clodman (BEd ‘19, MEd ‘20) is an educator and one of the four innovators behind Vaccine Hunters Canada. He holds three degrees from York, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Honours Psychology, a Bachelor of Education, and a Master of Education (MEd). Since stepping back from his role at Vaccine Hunters Canada, Jonathan has been concentrating on his position as a full-time elementary school teacher.   

Alumni Spotlight: Manfred Von Vulte (BEd '12)

Manfred Von Vulte (BEd ‘12) is a grade 8 teacher at St. Leo Catholic School in Brooklin and the Director of the Comic Book Project Canada. He holds three degrees from York -- a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Honours History, a Bachelor of Education (BEd), and a Master of Arts (MA). Von Vulte recently received $5,000 to create an animation studio as one of six schools in Ontario to win a $5,000 prize from the Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan (OTIP).

Alumni Spotlight: Mikhaela Gray-Beerman (BA '14, MEd '18)

Mikhaela Gray-Beerman (BA '14, MEd '18), one of York’s Top 30 Changemakers Under 30, is an anti-trafficking advocate, researcher, and educator, as well as a non-profit consultant. The work she does is informed by the many inspiring women and girls who have entrusted their stories with her.

York University alumna Darcie Sutherland has been appointed to the role of Principal of Inclusive Schools and Community Services: Dismantling Anti-Black Racism Strategy at the York Region District School Board (YRDSB).

PhD Grad Amira El Masri wins two best doctoral thesis awards

Amira El Masri, a recent PhD graduate at the Faculty of Education has recently been awarded two national awards: the Michel Laferrière Research Award for the best doctoral thesis by the Comparative and International Education Society of Canada (CIESC) and the George Geiss Award by the Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education (CSSHE).
