Technology Internship Program

The Technology Internship Program (TIP) is an optional experiential education program that provides students with the opportunity to engage in a four, eight, twelve or sixteen month work placement. While on internship, students are able to apply their classroom learning in a work environment; explore potential career options; and build relationships with colleagues and employers in their field of study.

Employers Actively Recruiting from TIP include: 

IBM, RIM, CIBC, RBC Financial Group, TD Bank Financial Group, Toronto Hydro, Ministry Of Health, Municipality of York Region, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Ministry of Children and Youth Services. 

A few examples of positions that York University students have received include:

Java Developer, Software Developer, Digital Hardware Engineer, IT Planning Analyst, Web Application Developer, Quality Assurance, Research Assistant and Application Programmer.

Getting Started


Plan Ahead

To be eligible for an Internship you must be an Honours Full-time ITEC student (120-credit degree) at a specific stage of your studies. You must have completed 54 credits and have 9 credits to complete before you graduate. You need to return to York University for full-time studies to qualify.

International students are eligible to join with a co-op work permit from the federal government.


Review Eligibility Requirements

There are specific pre-requisite and academic performance requirements that you need to fulfill to be eligible for TIP: you need to have a GPA of 5.5 or better in Major as well as a cumulative GPA of 5.0 or better. Successful completion or in progress of 9.00 ITEC credits at the 3000-level or higher, one of which MUST be AP/ITEC 3010 3.00 Systems Analysis and Design I (formerly ITEC 2010 3.00).

Attend an Information Session
