Sophia is a professional emergency manager with over 17 years of emergency response and recovery experience  internationally in complex emergencies, and domestically at municipal and regional levels in Canada. Sophia has held senior positions with various United Nations agencies and humanitarian organizations and continues to advise governments in Canada and around the world on their disaster and emergency management programs and priorities. Drawing on real world examples, Sophia applies DEM theory and personal experience to real world scenarios in order to prepare students for how emergency management 'really works'.  In class discussions and group assignments are based on typical deliverables expected from professional emergency managers.
