Teerooven Soobaroven has had a distinguished academic career over the past 25 years, with positions at the University of Mauritius, Aberystwyth University, the University of Southampton, and the University of Essex. He has taught accounting at various levels, including undergraduate, Masters, MBA, and executive education, and has served as an external examiner for institutions such as Université des Mascareignes and the University of Bath. He has led departments and groups in accounting, and recently served as Deputy Dean for Academic Partnerships at the University of Essex.
In teaching, Teerooven currently instructs undergraduate modules on Financial Analysis and Contemporary Issues in Accounting, and supervises postgraduate dissertations and placements. His past teaching has covered management accounting, financial accounting, governance, financial statement analysis, and research methods.
His research focuses on the interaction between accounting, accountability, and governance, with interests in diverse settings like developing economies, public sector, and non-governmental organizations. He works on corporate governance codes, ESG frameworks, and public sector financial management, especially in Africa.
Teerooven has supervised 19 PhD students on topics such as management control in emerging economies, corporate governance, and accounting regulation. He has also examined over 40 PhD theses both in the UK and internationally.
