"The number to beat at Selfies Toronto is 470.
That’s the current record for most snaps within 60 minutes at the new all-you-can-take photo studio in Richmond Hill. That’s more than seven takes per minute.
Co-owner Jeremy Li said he and his five business partners are the record holders right now, but he challenges both existing and future customers to become familiar enough with the remote to dethrone the experts.
It’s possible, Li said. A do-it-yourself photo studio, Selfies Toronto rents out themed rooms to avid selfie takers for hour-long sessions. The number of photos customers take varies depending on the frequency of costume or background changes, both of which are included with the session.
The ever-growing popularity of selfies on social media sites like Twitter and Instagram has self-portrait takers clamouring to bring their selfie game to the next level. Like the recent phenomenon of selfie sticks, which are notably being banned at tourist attractions, selfie studios offer a new way for young people to set themselves apart, in this case without incurring the cost of travel or event expenses.
Li and fellow owner Dorothy Chiu, both 22 and recent graduates of York University’s Schulich School of Business, were inspired to bring a selfie studio to Toronto after trips to Hong Kong last summer, where such businesses were booming."
