President and Vice Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri and Fine Arts Dean Shawn Brixey will welcome students, staff, faculty members and distinguished guests to celebrate the renaming of the Faculty of Fine Arts as it becomes the School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design.

“As Canada's first and Ontario's only Faculty of Fine Arts, we've been in the vanguard of arts education for almost half a century. Our pioneering programs have been the launch pad for a generation of game-changing artists, performers, designers, producers, arts scholars and cultural leaders,” said Brixey.

“Building on this rich tradition of innovation, we're now advancing to the next exciting phase of our educational mandate. We’re stepping forward with an inspiring mission and a bold new vision under a new name that embodies the extraordinary scope and boundary-pushing spirit of our creative community,” Brixey said.

The launch event for the School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design takes place at 11am in the Sandra Faire and Ivan Fecan Theatre, followed by a reception in the CIBC Lobby in the Accolade East Building at York’s Keele campus.
