Degree Options & Requirements

Beyond choosing to study Public Administration, you get to customize how you study. In the Specialized Honours version of the Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA) program you get to choose one of three streams: Law, Justice and Public Policy; Management; Policy Analysis. The core curriculum is the same for the first two years of study, so you can change your mind and switch streams easily. If you’re weighing two subjects of interest but can’t make a decision, you’re able to declare Public Administration Honour as major or your primary area of study, as well as a minor, or secondary subject. Whatever path you envision, you’ll have choices to accommodate you along the way.

Specialized Honours BPA

In addition to completing the core requirements, students must specialize in one of three streams. Students must declare a stream by the time they complete 60 credits.

Students must pass 120 credits with a minimum overall cumulative grade point average of 5.00.

General education: a minimum of 21 general education credits.

75 major credits. At least 12 credits in the major must be at the 4000 level or above. At least 36 credits must be at the 3000 or 4000 level including at least 18 credits at the 4000 level.

18 credits outside the major.

Honours Bachelor in Public Administration (BPA)

Honours Major/Minor BPA

The BPA Honours program in Public Administration may be pursued jointly with any Honours Minor bachelor program within the Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change, the Faculty of Health, the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies, the Faculty of Science, the School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design, or the Lassonde School of Engineering that offers a major/minor option.

Students must complete 63 credits in the major in conformity with the requirements of the program major and at least 30 credits in the minor in conformity with the requirements of the program minor. At least 12 credits in the major must be at the 4000 level and at least six credits in the minor must be at the 4000 level.

Honours Minor in Public Administration

The minor in public administration may be pursued jointly with any Honours Major degree program offered by the Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change, the Faculty of Health, the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies, the Faculty of Science, the School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design, or the Lassonde School of Engineering that offers a major/minor option.

Students must complete 36 credits in the minor and at least six credits must be at the 4000 level.
