You will find that your mathematics background is a key element to your success at York University, but we understand that there may be many reasons why you may not feel comfortable with it as you start your university journey. You and your future classmates are arriving at York from hundreds of different high schools, from all provinces and territories and from dozens of countries around the world, so it is very reasonable that you have diverse mathematical backgrounds.
Our job is to support you as you are right now, which means we need to learn more about you!
Before your enrolment appointment, we will ask you to complete the Math Quiz and share your results with us so that we can give you the best possible advice regarding your mathematical background preparation.
This diagnostic assessment does not count for any official grades at York University. It is designed as a self-reflection tool to help you identify your mathematical strengths and obstacles in preparation for your first-year mathematics course. We recommend trying the quiz without looking anything up so that you can get the most accurate evaluation of your current mathematical preparation.
A few important notes:
- You must have created your Passport York account to access the Math Quiz.
- Once you are logged in, your Passport York session will expire after 90 minutes. If you do not submit your responses before the session expires, your progress will be lost.
- The assessment comes in two parts and should take approximately 90 minutes. Make sure you give yourself enough uninterrupted time to complete it.
- Your test answers will only be submitted when you click on the SUBMIT button.
- The final score is not a grade. It is not worth academic credit at York University and does not affect your offer of admission or your academic standing at the school.
