AP/CH 3600 6.0 Lu Xun: Representative Works (in Chinese)

AP/CH 3600 6.0 Lu Xun: Representative Works (in Chinese)

This course is a seminar.  It deals with the creative work of Lu Xun, China's leading 20th-century literary writer.  While the focus of the course is on the textual analysis of Lu Xun's short stories, prose poems and selected satirical essays, we pay attention to secondary sources as supplementary material to help students understand how Lu Xun's works were viewed by his contemporaries.  Aside from  lectures given by the professor, the students are expected to participate in group discussions and group acting exercises (adapted skits based on Lu Xun's works are distributed in class). Modern Standard Chinese is used in class.
Prerequisite: AP/CH 3000 6.0 or AP/CH 3010 6.0, and at least one 2000-level Chinese literature course, or permission of the department. Knowledge of Chinese (Mandarin) is expected. All lectures, readings and assignments are in Chinese. English is used when necessary.
Course Credit Exclusion: None. Prior to Fall 2009: AS/CH 3600 6.0
