2024 Award for Emerging Community-Based Researcher

This award recognizes and celebrates an individual who embodies community-based research values in their work. It is open to community researchers, PhD students (or recent graduates), postdoctoral fellows, and early career researchers. Applicants should be applying no more than five years from graduation and/or five years into their current position. The award includes a $1,000 cash prize to support their community-based research.

  • A list of up to three referees with brief biographies who have confirmed they would provide a letter of endorsement for the nomination.

Evaluation Process

As York is only permitted to make 3 nominations per category, the Office of Research Services (ORS) will run an internal selection process. A committee of experienced community-based researchers and knowledge mobilization experts will review the materials and make recommendations to the Vice President Research & Innovation on which nominations to put forward.

All materials should be sent via email to SIRI Specialist Abby Vogus (avogus@yorku.ca) no later than March 5, 2024.

How to Apply

York University researchers are reminded that all applications for external research funding, including Letters of Intent, must be reviewed and approved by the Office of Research Services before they are submitted to the granting agency.  For internal approval, the application must be accompanied by a completed ORS Checklist, which requires the Dean’s signature.  Please send the complete application, with the finalized budget and a completed ORS checklist to sciapps@yorku.ca, five days prior to agency deadline.

ORS is accepting electronic applications – the process is outlined here.
