Due to post-COVID challenges and recent world events, the Canadian government is taking longer than usual to process study permits. York University is aware of the situation and has reached out to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to encourage faster study-permit processing times.
We understand that this is a stressful situation, if you have any questions about the study permit delays, please contact Felicia Mercier or Miranda Ramnaraine from the Science Recruitment Team at intlsci@yorku.ca.
We have outlined the options for students affected by a study permit delay below:
Defer to January 2023 Start
Why not start in the winter? We understand that the delays may be significant and you may need to defer your start date. To apply for undergraduate admission deferral, you must complete an online Admission Deferral Request by September 10. Deferral requests may not be processed until your final document requirements are satisfied in your MyFile account. You will receive a new Decision Letter and Acceptance/Visa Letter in your MyFile account once the Admissions Office approves your deferral request.
September 10 is the deadline to submit a referral request, however, due to the current circumstances surrounding the study permit delays, York University will honour deferral requests for impacted International Students if the request is received by September 23. To submit a deferral request after September 10, please email intlsci@yorku.ca.
Late Arrival in September
Classes will begin on September 7, however, students must arrive by September 12 to remain enrolled in the Fall 2022 semester. If you cannot arrive by September 12 we encourage you to consider deferring your start date to January 2023.
