Hello everyone:
Welcome to York University and to Vanier College.
My name is Stanley Tweyman, and I serve as the Master of Vanier College. I am a Professor of Humanities and Philosophy. My connection to Vanier College dates back to 1974, when I became a Fellow of Vanier. I began serving as Master on July 1, 2007.
York University is one of only a few universities in Canada that has a College system. In my opinion, Colleges are vital to students and faculty in large Universities, such as York: Colleges provide a friendly, warm, inviting setting in which students can meet other students, faculty members, and staff members; attend interesting talks and performances; access study space and computer services; obtain advising regarding academic and personal matters; become involved in College government and/ or various student clubs; and much more. Vanier College excels in providing all of these, and I invite you to speak with me, if you have suggestions for workshops, performances, or other college-related activities that you would like to see realized. I also invite you to drop by my office to introduce yourself: I very much want to meet as many Vanier students as possible.
Study/ lounge space for students is available weekdays in the Renaissance Room (room 001) and in room 113. It is advisable to check the posted schedules of times each day of a particular week when these rooms will be available.
The Vanier Master’s office is located on the second floor of our College (room 254). Our telephone number is 416 736-5192; our e-mail address is vanier@yorku.ca
Let me end my letter of welcome by wishing you a healthy productive school year.
With sincerest best wishes,
Stanley Tweyman
