First-Year Experience Program Certificate
The LA&PS First-Year Experience Program Certificate encourages you to make the most of your first year by participating in activities that support your academic, personal, and professional growth. Along the way, you'll explore campus resources, develop valuable skills, and become more connected to the York community.
Stay engaged and be rewarded! Participants are eligible for monthly incentives throughout the academic year.
Activities can include workshops, events, appointments, clubs, and more! Simply submit proof of participation, such as a selfie at an event, a screenshot of a registration or appointment confirmation, or other evidence of your involvement on the First Year Experience eClass.
Complete all requirements to receive your First-Year Experience Program Certificate, which you can add to your resume or portfolio, and celebrate your commitment to making the most of your first year at York!
Your First Lecture

Get a head start on your university journey with Your First Lecture, an experience designed exclusively for incoming first-year students in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies. Join us on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for an interactive session that gives you the opportunity to experience a university lecture before classes begin, helping you build confidence, develop essential academic skills, and ease your transition to university.
Choose from an Economics and Business or Liberal Arts focused lecture, each tailored to the learning approaches and skills needed for success in your academic program. You’ll also learn about campus resources, connect with fellow students, meet the First Year Experience (FYE) and Peer Support Teams, and gain practical strategies to help you feel prepared and ready to begin your first year at York University.
Peer Support Team @ LA&PS
Connect with friendly, knowledgeable upper-year students who are excited to help you succeed in your first year. The Peer Support Team @ LA&PS can help you navigate university services, make friends, get involved at York, build your confidence and share the inside scoop on student life. Look for our team on campus in pink vests and join us at our weekly “First Year Lunch Break” events during the Fall and Winter terms. You can also connect with us at LA&PS Orientation and “First Year Gets Festive” events throughout the year!

Every time you log into eClass, take a moment to open the First Year Experience Course where you’ll find the First-Year Handbook, a complete guide to navigating your first year and a curated calendar of events. Don’t miss our Monday Morning Announcements, which help you start each week on the right foot!
LA&PS Life College Hub
Register for LA&PS Colleges events and find our FYE Peer Mentor meeting booking schedule.
Community Hub
Don’t know where to go in between classes? Hang out at the LA&PS Community Hub (VC 001). The Community Hub is a warm and welcoming space with microwaves, regular events, ample study space and it is a great place for group work or socializing.
Room VC 001 is open to students Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

All First-Year students in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies (LA&PS) are automatically enrolled in our First Year Experience eClass site. This site is packed with information to help you make a smooth transition into your studies.
Logging in
The first time you access eClass, you'll be prompted to confirm your email address before proceeding.
Find your course
At the top of the eClass site, click on My Courses to see all your courses including the First-Year Experience.
