Overview

The Biology program, York’s longest-established scientific program, is home to internationally-recognized teaching and research faculty. This program offers you a diversity of courses from across the discipline. You may choose to sample subjects from a variety of sub-disciplines, or specialize in Biotechnology or Biomedical Science through our degree streams.

Focused on developing independent analytical and applied skills through research projects and laboratory investigations, Biology at York Science will give you a firm grounding in the core concepts of biology as well as sound scientific training in the techniques and methods of biological research at all scales, from molecules to ecosystems.

Bachelor of Science (90 credits, normally over three years)
A flexible, multi-disciplinary program offering you a broad range of studies in biology.

Honours Programs (120 credits, normally over four years)
You may complete a Specialized Honours degree in Biology, or in the Biotechnology, or Biomedical Science streams.

Honours Double Major
Combine your Honours studies in Biology with another major in Science or Health (for example, Chemistry, Physics, Kinesiology & Health Sciences, or Psychology).

International BSc (iBSc)
Combine a Biology major with international courses, new cultural experiences and language study.

  • Biology I - Cells, Molecular Biology and Genetics
  • Biology II - Evolution, Ecology, Biodiversity and Conservation

  • Mathematics I and II for the Biological and Health Sciences
  • Introduction to Computing for Data Analysis and Visualization
  • Anthropology (or other approved Non-Science courses)
