York professor looks back at the darker side of boarding school

 

Professor Soosan Daghighi Latham, from the School of Human Resource Management, and Roya Movahedi Ferdows are the authors of The Boarding School Girls: Development and Cultural Narratives. Boarding School Girls tells the stories of 11 Persian girls in the 1960s and '70s who were sent to English boarding schools.

The book offers a psychological analysis of the British and colonial boarding school tradition and its impact on cross-cultural boarders. Latham and Ferdows, ex-boarders themselves, draw in "a unique collection of stories" and offer "emotionally embodied narratives of everyday lives."
