What happens if I can’t go on my program due to unforeseen circumstances?

Program fee refunds for students due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., a medical emergency) will only be considered on a case-by-case basis. A doctor’s note stating that the student is not cleared to fly, or similar, will be required to be considered for a refund. Please connect with the Study Abroad Coordinator as soon as possible.

Am I eligible for study abroad funding?

Yes, all York students are eligible for some level of study abroad funding. Awards are generally based on program type, duration, length, and destination, as well as the availability of funds on a yearly basis. Please consult the Study Abroad Funding section for more details.  

What happens if my study abroad course is cancelled?

If a LA&PS Summer Study Abroad Course is cancelled due to low enrollment, a change in the course director’s circumstances, or restriction of travel into the destination country, students will receive a refund of their Program Fee.

How do I pay the program fee?

Once you have been accepted into a LA&PS Summer Study Abroad Course, you will be given a link to complete your non-refundable deposit and program fee payments online. These payments go directly to LA&PS and cover the cost of all course-related activities abroad. All major credit cards are accepted.

What are the payment deadlines?

The $500 non-refundable course deposit fee is due for all courses on January 8, 2026. Final program fees are due from students whose courses are departing from early May to mid-June on March 2, 2026; final program fees from students whose courses are departing from mid-June to August are due on April 1, 2026.

Why am I charged a non-refundable course deposit fee?

The course deposit fee covers the initial expenses incurred abroad related to students’ participation. These fees are non-refundable once charged and are taken as a commitment that the student will participate in the study abroad course.
