Study Abroad Payment

What happens if I can’t go on my program due to unforeseen circumstances?

Program fee refunds for students due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., a medical emergency) will only be considered on a case-by-case basis. A doctor’s note stating that the student is not cleared to fly, or similar, will be required to be considered for a refund. Please connect with the Study Abroad Coordinator as soon as possible.

Am I eligible for study abroad funding?

Yes, all York students are eligible for some level of study abroad funding. Awards are generally based on program type, duration, length, and destination, as well as the availability of funds on a yearly basis. Please consult the Study Abroad Funding section for more details.

What happens if my study abroad course is cancelled?

If a LA&PS Summer Study Abroad Course is cancelled due to low enrollment, a change in the course director’s circumstances, or restriction of travel into the destination country, students will receive a refund of their Program Fee.

Am I eligible for a refund?

Please consult the refund section below to see whether you are entitled to a refund of a portion of your Program Fee.

What are the payment deadlines?

The payment deadlines for Summer 2024 study abroad courses have not yet been determined. Please check back in Fall 2023 for updated information.

Why am I charged a non-refundable course deposit fee?

The course deposit fee covers the initial expenses incurred abroad related to students’ participation. These fees are non-refundable once charged and are taken as a commitment that the student will participate in the study abroad course.
