What is the difference between the ‘non-credit ESL’ and the ‘ESL’ credit courses?

How may credit courses do I take?

The minimum FT course load is 18 credits – 9 credits per term. 24 credits in total are planned over two terms in this program.

What will the on-campus experience be like?

You’ll be studying alongside other York students enjoying campus life and having the first-year experience. The EAP courses will be limited to those in this program.

How do I make my timetable for the year?

We will provide most of the schedule for you. You will have some choice over your electives, just makes sure they fit around your required courses.

What grades do I need to pass my courses?

You are expected to maintain above a 60% GPA to pass the courses. Throughout this first year, you can get support to keep on track as you work towards your second year. Please review the progression policy at York.

What are the entry requirements for this program?

Students must have an academic IELTS of 5.5 or 6.0 overall (with no score below 5.0) or equivalent. Students must also meet all other undergraduate academic requirements for their chosen program within LA&PS.

Is this program a language pathway?

No. You are not taking English as a subject but rather you will get to choose any LA&PS specialization you wish, and then take additional non-credit and credit ESL courses to support your English language learning.

How long is the program?

The program is 2 terms, or 8 months total. You will gain direct admission into LA&PS.
