DARE Project: Canadian podcasters, longform narrative journalism, true crime, and other cases
Program(s) of Study: Sociology & Gender and Women's Studies
Project Supervisor: Anne MacLennan

I hope this research will impact how aware we are of the power of podcasts and oral presentations.

Project Description:

My DARE research project, “Canadian podcasters, longform narrative journalism, true crime, and other cases," explores how Canadian podcasting intersects with true crime podcasting and longform narrative journalism. Podcasts have become a dominant medium for information, advice, and entertainment, reaching audiences worldwide with a variety of genres. This research project seeks to explore the intersection of Canadian podcasting with the popular formats of true crime podcasting and long-form narrative journalism. My role in the research involved examining the differences between True Crime and Investigative journalism by analyzing podcasts, documentaries, and cases across Canada to determine which were considered true crime and which were investigative journalism. While also looking into what qualifies a case to get covered in mass media and why certain cases do not.
