DARE Project: Negotiating a Just Energy Transition: Futureproofing the African Mining Vision for Continental Transformation
Program(s) of Study: Political Science & Public Administration
Project Supervisor: Richard Saunders
In terms of research impact, my key goal lies in making a contribution of value to the wider scholarly debates on the African Mining Vision with a different lens of analysis to ensure its success.
Project Description:
The DARE project examined the multilayered impact of resource extractive industries on local communities in the four country case studies: Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The model of analysis is focused on the African Mining Vision [AMV] in the wider context of African policymaking and community extractive-led development frameworks. By assessing the AMV, my research investigated the accomplishments, challenges, opportunities and success drivers governing this policy framework to accelerate continental sustainable development. The Dean’s Award for Research Excellence (DARE) - Undergraduate enables our students to meaningfully engage in research projects supervised by LA&PS faculty members.
