Cary Wu, associate professor in the Department of Sociology, has published a new study on the One Health framework. One Health is a holistic approach to tackling global health that considers connections between humans, animals and the environment. The new study reveals that the incorrect translation of the term “One Health” is affecting communication and collaboration, making the system difficult to implement internationally. For instance, in China alone, there are more than 20 different translations of the term “One Health”, and additional variations exist in Spanish and French. These differences could create confusion when taking collective action against future health crises. Wu’s study is available to read in BioScience.
Wu holds a PhD from the University of British Columbia and has received numerous awards including the York Research Leader Award for 2023-24. His research interests include sociology, health, trust, political sociology of health, inequality and research methods.
