Vanier College Productions brings 'Little Women' to the stage

Members of the York University community and beyond are invited to attend the stage production of Little Women, an inspired and timeless story that deals with feminism, running until March 12 at the Fred Thury Studio Theatre, 258 Vanier College.

Presented by Vanier College Productions, the musical is based on the literary classic by Louisa May Alcott and follows the adventures of sisters Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March.

Jo, following her passion for writing, is trying to sell her stories for publication. Despite the challenges and prejudices she faces, Jo weaves the story of herself, her sisters and their experience growing up in Civil War America.

Nominated for a Tony Award and multiple Drama Desk Awards, Little Women charms audience members, making it impossible not to fall in love with the spirited characters. This timeless, captivating tale is brought to life in this glorious musical filled with personal discovery, heartache, hope and everlasting love.

“The story of Little Women is extremely important to me, as it deals with feminism at its very core,” said Director Theresa Noon-Hunter. “[Jo] follows the fire within her heart and pursues all her dreams. She demonstrates the strength that women have when they choose to empower themselves.”

Featuring a cast and crew of talented York University students, the show is sure to bring a sense of pride to the student community as they bring this classic story to life.

“It has been an absolute pleasure working with the cast on this show,” said Noon-Hunter. “They have a willingness to explore and embody this beautiful story and inspire me every day!”
