Black Scholars Research Fund - Round 2

The Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies (LA&PS) has established the LA&PS Black Scholars Research Fund (BSRF), max. $5,000, to support innovative research project ideas from qualified eligible applicants who self-identify as Black peoples of African Descent. Projects may be standalone or part of a broader research program. The faculty will launch a second round of a call for proposal from eligible applicants at the assistant or associate professor level.

CERLAC Call for Submissions: TLN Telelatino Awards 2021

• Value: $2,500
• Duration: three terms (Fall, Winter, Summer),
• Deadline: August 27, 2021

The TLN Graduate Fellowship is awarded annually to one York graduate student, who is nominated by a CERLAC Fellow, owing to their investment in communicating with the public about research relating to Latin America and the Caribbean and their diasporas. As a TLN Graduate Fellow, this student will serve as a knowledge hub and storyteller within the Centre with the mission of gathering and sharing human-interest stories from both student and faculty researchers on topics related to Latin America and the Caribbean, their diasporas, and their impact on Canada and the rest of the world.

The TLN Graduate Fellow must be a graduate student registered in an academic degree program at York University (any Faculty or College, including Glendon). Eligible students must be Canadian citizens, Ontario residents, and demonstrate financial need.

York University-TD Community Engagement Centre issues call for proposals for Catalyst Grants

Deadline: Friday, August. 6, by 11:59 p.m (EST)

Catalyst Grants are intended to provide start-up funding for innovative partnerships between York University and the Black Creek community. The grants can cover a broad range of ideas that respond to community needs. This year's call seeks proposals for projects that tackle some of the challenges exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic and identify some re-imagined or creative steps forward. Proposals should be submitted to Talisha Ramsaroop, community projects coordinator at talishar@yorku.ca. Fulbright Grants in the US for Canadian Faculty Members- Competition Open

Fulbright Canada recently announced a Call for Applications for its Canadian Scholar Awards 2022-2023 Program. This program strengthens binational collaborative research and promotes thoughtful public debate on topics that reflect the broad range of contemporary issues relevant to Canada, the United States and the relationship between the two countries. There are two streams:

• Fulbright Canada Research Chairs Program The award ranges from US $25,000 to US$50,000 for 4 – 9 months.
• Traditional Fulbright Scholar Award The award is US $12,500 for one semester (4 months)

Public Health Agency of Canada: The Intersectoral Action Fund Call for Applications

• Value: $25,000 and $250,000 (overhead 15%)
• Duration: Up to 12 months

PHAC is seeking proposals for community-based projects that support collective action on the social determinants of health. The objectives of The Intersectoral Action Fund are to support action on social determinants of health by building capacity in communities to advance intersectoral action, in ways that improve population health and reduce health inequities.

Specifically, this solicitation will aim to build capacity for intersectoral action across three project Streams:

• Stream 1: Identify priority areas for collective action on social determinants of health and wellbeing
• Stream 2: Foster transformative partnerships to facilitate action on social determinants of health and wellbeing
• Stream 3: Build capacity to take action on social determinants of health and wellbeing

Community Foundations of Canada - Healthy Communities Initiative Round 2

• Value: Min. $5,000 and max. $250,000 for each project.

Community Foundations of Canada (CFC) is accepting applications for Round 2 of its Healthy Communities Initiative to identify and fund local projects and solutions to the challenges presented by COVID-19. The objective is to support communities as they create and adapt public spaces, and programming and services for public spaces to respond to ongoing needs arising from COVID-19. Imagining Canada’s Future Ideas Lab: Canada and the Circular Economy

The Imagining Canada’s Future (ICF) Ideas Lab is an exciting, new two-year pilot program designed to encourage innovative research partnerships and projects. By breaking down methodological barriers and empowering participants to explore new approaches to research, the ICF Ideas Lab will aid knowledge sharing and provide foundations for future interdisciplinary projects. NSERC Discovery Horizons Grants

SSHRC Joint Initiative for Digital Citizen Research – Connection Grants

SSHRC announced the relaunching of the Connection Grants arm of the Initiative for Digital Citizen Research (IDCR), a joint initiative with the Department of Canadian Heritage (PCH). The IDCR aims to develop a better understanding of the impacts of online disinformation in Canada in order to better inform programs and policies, build Canada’s capacity to conduct research on – and related to – countering online disinformation and other related online harms, and help foster a community of researchers engaged with digital citizenship and online disinformation in Canada. It also aims to provide assistance to selected events and outreach activities for short-term, targeted knowledge mobilization initiatives.

NSERC has released details about a new Alliance Option 2 two-pager that provides an overview of what the NSERC - Alliance Grants option 2 funding is all about. The projects should aim to address and are driven by an unmet societal need, meaning that the results matter not just to the partner organizations but also to the public. Refer to the NSERC resources page to access the best practices webinar, a summary of NSERC requirements and more. The results should be broadly shared in various formats, allowing even non-specialists outside the project to understand and use the results.
