CoLearn One Button Studio

The One Button Studio (OBS) invites instructors and staff to create dynamic, engaging digital learning objects for use in courses. Designed for ease of use, the studio makes video creation easier so that instructors can create high-quality videos with the press of a button.

The studio offers a range of multimedia production technologies to record lectures or demonstrations for integration into eClass and Panopto, including:  

  • Lightboard
  • Cameras
  • Microphones
  • Drawing Tablet
  • Greenscreen
  • Studio Lighting

Making a Reservation

The studio is open for bookings Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and reservations are open for LA&PS faculty and staff.  At this time, the One Button Studio is not open to students for booking the studio.

Reservations may be made for up to 3 hours. If no instructor/staff is present 15 minutes after the scheduled start time, the reservation is cancelled and the studio becomes available to other users on a walk-in basis.

All reservation requests should be submitted at least ten (10) working days before the day of use.

Booking Confirmation

Booking priority for the One Button Studio is given to LA&PS course instructors and confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis. Confirmation or communication related to a reservation will be sent within five (5) working days of the submission request date.

Change Reservation

Reservations can be changed or cancelled at any time by reaching out to colearn@yorku.ca. If cancelling a studio reservation, please notify us as soon as possible. This will open the studio up to another booking.

Scheduling Conflict

In the event of a scheduling conflict, CoLearn staff will attempt to resolve the conflict by locating alternative times. Bookings may be cancelled due to missed/late bookings, emergency maintenance operations or to accommodate scheduling conflicts.


Wraparound Support

Instructors using the One Button Studio can access pedagogical and tech support from the LA&PS Teaching & Learning and eServices teams both before and during studio bookings. To explore ways to use the space for a class, reach out to book some time to connect about the studio and its possibilities for creating digital learning objects.

Getting Started with the One Button Studio

The One Button Studio is a user-friendly space designed for faculty and staff to record high-quality learning objects including recording lecture videos. To help patrons get started and make the most of a recording session, explore the points below.

What to Bring


  • Presentation Script/Outline: A printed or digital copy of the presentation or script to help stay organized and on track.
  • Presentation Materials: If using slides, images, etc. have them ready on a device, USB or OneDrive.
  • Optional Tech Items: Depending on set-up preference, consider bringing a laptop (HDMI compatible) HDMI adaptor, presentation clicker and USB (16GB for 2 hrs of recording).
  • Optional Items: Consider bringing additional materials such as visual aids or props to enhance a presentation.

Quick Tips for a Successful Recording Session


  • First Use: When using the studio for the first time, book an extra test session to explore, experiment and get familiar with the studio’s set-up and equipment.
  • Set-up Check: Take a moment to adjust the desk height, camera position and lighting to ensure optimal framing and lighting.
  • Practice Run: Record a quick test video to ensure everything is set-up and working well.
  • Save and Verify Recording: When finished recording, check to confirm the files have been properly saved (as mp4) to a personal drive or USB.
  • Screentest Outfit: Prior to recording, test clothing and accessories with a camera to reduce visual and audio distraction and interference as well as to avoid such things as moiré effect, exposure imbalance, colour bleeding and/or greenscreen interference.
