Become certified as holding one of three levels of French language proficiency. This certificate can be taken together with a bachelor’s degree.
The French Studies program focuses on the study of language, linguistics and literature while exploring francophone culture around the world. We keep our classes small to give you plenty of opportunity to speak French and interact with professors and classmates.

The Hedi Bouraoui Essay Prize is awarded to a Year 3 or 4 student majoring in French (language, linguistics or literature), who has written a meritorious essay in French.
Established to honour Professor Donald Jackson, upon his retirement, for his extensive contribution to the University. The recipient of the award must be a French major or minor, have a cumulative GPA of 7.00 (B+) or higher in French Studies courses, and have at least two 8.00's in the last academic year.
